Virtual events and resources: how to build your employability

COVID 19 has changed the way many of us work, leading us to focus on different ways to work, gain experience, and improve our skill sets remotely.  It’s essential to consider ways to make yourself more employable.  Have you thought about how you will develop your graduate attributes?

There are some great resources online to help you do this. Here are three things you can do now:

1. Join online career-focused events

Did you know that Newcastle University Careers Service offers a wide range of online careers workshops and events throughout the year?

Events are hosted by a variety of speakers, from careers consultants to key employers, and give you the chance to:

  • enhance your CV writing skills
  • learn about employer opportunities
  • find support for developing your own business idea

2. Explore virtual opportunities

It’s important to take time to reflect and identify your strengths.  There are different options that you can explore regarding remote paid work or virtual internships. Have you also thought about entering competitions or gaining awards to showcase your activities such as the ncl+award?   You can also take a huge range of free online courses to build your knowledge skillset including LinkedIn Learning courses (free access for Newcastle University students). There are many different ways to prepare for your graduate role and make yourself stand out to employers.
