Wellbeing Wednesday – Newcastle University Students’ Union

Spotlight on…Your Student Union

Ran for students, by the students NUSU cares about student issues. NUSU aims to be democratic, inclusive, effective, progressive, sustainable, socially responsible, and fun.

Calendar of events

From exercise classes to baking, cocktail making, and quiz nights, there are a huge number of online events that you can get involved in with NUSU. Keep checking their online calendar of events to find something new, whether you are looking to learn or connect with your fellow students, there’s something for everyone.

Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering is a great way to help you develop the skills employers want you to demonstrate when you graduate. Everything from effective communication, working in a team, through to solving problems, and demonstrating adaptability can be gained and developed through NUSU’s volunteering programme.

The ncl+ accreditation scheme gives you recognition for the volunteering work you do. This means your volunteering work will be recognised on your Higher Education Achievement Report and also through our Celebrating Success and Pride of Newcastle University Awards.

Student societies

There are over 160 student societies and 65 sports clubs for you to get involved with, try new activities and meet other students. A large number of these have moved to online activities as a result of the pandemic so you can still find ways to spend time with your fellow students.

Employability

Your Students’ Union has a range of ways to improve your employability, including online courses and workshops that you can complete in your own time.

A-Z of Support

You may have seen our spotlight on the Student Advice Centre in the 03 February Wellbeing update, but this is just one of many ways that the Students’ Union can support students. Through their A-Z of support you can find help to help you in a range of situations, from help with housing, finance and consumer matters, to finding out the latest on Covid-19.

Find a Flatmate

With Covid-19 preventing the majority of face-to-face lectures and activities, it is more challenging than ever for students to find like-minded students to share a flat with for the upcoming academic year. NUSU’s Find a Flatmate page allows you to create a profile and connect with your fellow students who are also looking for flatmates in the upcoming academic year.
