Meet the Class of 2020 – Alicia Cooke

Hi, my name is Alicia. I have spent the last 4 years studying Marketing and Management at Newcastle University, with one year spent studying abroad in Melbourne, Australia.

  • My favourite memory of my time at Newcastle: My 22nd A day and night filled with my favourite Newcastle traditions: A day in the city, Ouseburn pubs, a meal with my friends, followed by a notorious night out! I knew it would be my last birthday here, so I really made the most of it.

  • The best thing about Newcastle: The people! My time at Newcastle has been this amazing because of the incredible friends I have made, that I know will last a lifetime. Living in a city of Geordies is also a good laugh and bound to put a smile on your face.

  • What I would tell my previous self/advice to new students: Get involved in as much extra-curricular stuff as possible. In Freshers week, this means signing up (and actually attending) society events. I would recommend continuing hobbies you love, as this is an easy way to socialise with people who have similar interests to you, but also try something new (I tried pole dancing and boxing!). The Student’s Union has hundreds of societies to choose from! In stage 2 onwards, consider getting involved in opportunities provided by your faculty. The Business School has lots of job opportunities, competitions and guest lecturers, so take advantage of these as they can massively increase your employability.

  • Where I see myself in 5 years time: In 5 years I want to have worked in Manchester in a marketing role, completed my ski season in Canada and travelled around America. I want to have returned back to the UK to work in a more permanent graduate role. This might be in marketing, product development or management (I hope to figure this out by then!) Eventually I would like to have my own successful business one day.
