Business School Student Guide – Spots to visit around the Business School

Whether you’ve just started as a Business School student or it’s your first year back on campus, it can be overwhelming looking for activities to do around the Business School. As Newcastle University Business School student myself on my placement year, I wanted to bring you a quick guide to places I frequented as a in my first two yearsThis has been brokedown into lunch spots, scenic walks and cute places to have a coffee whilst catching up on work – there’s something in here for everyone! 

Lunch Spots

1. Bait (4 minute walk)

Bait is just a short 4 minute walk from the Business School and serves a range of fresh sandwiches, paninis and hot drinks. They have a selection of vegetarian and vegan options too, so there’s something to suit everyone’s dietary requirements and preferences. 






2. Olive and Bean (9 minute walk)

If you prefer bigger lunch portions to help get you through those afternoon lectures, Olive and Bean is the perfect spot for you. Choose from a variety of paninis, toasties and more, including delicious coffees and hot drinks. 






3. Chilli Padi (5 minute walk)

Chilli Padi is a great spot to explore with your course mates when you fancy something different. The wide range of Malaysian food choices could be a great test to see how much spice you can handle – the options are endless! 






4. Shijo (10 minute walk)

If you’re a student at Newcastle University, Shijo is a classic. Located inside the Student’s Union, there’s nothing more comforting than a warm bowl of Japanese food. 







Have a walk and get some fresh air

1. Leazes Park (8 minute walk)

Leazes Park is your go-to place around the corner from the Business School to unwind and clear your head between lectures. There’s a beautiful lake where you can often spot ducks and swans.






2. Quayside (15 minute walk)

If you have a bigger gap between lectures or fancy seeing more of the city, why not head over to the iconic Quayside? It’s a great place for a scenic walk and you’re guaranteed to get a gorgeous photo. 






3. Grey Street (10 minute walk)

Grey Street is always on the top of the list for a picturesque walk. Previously named as one of the most Instagrammed streets in the UK, it’s well worth an explore. 






Cute coffee shops – catch up on work or enjoy a cake!

1. Central Ban Coffee House (4 minute walk)

If you fancy a change of scenery from the usual Business School study spaces, Central Bean Coffee House is great place to catch up on work. Their seasonal drinks will never disappoint. 







2. Les Petits Choux (7 minute walk)

Les Petits Choux is another student favourite. It’s a family-run business offering a range of freshly baked cakes and pastries. Not only are you supporting a small local business, but you’re also getting a sweet treat! 






3. The Dispensary (1 minute walk)

Instagram: @thedispensaryncl

The Dispensary has the most convenient location of being right next to the Business School. Their specialty drinks make it a perfect spot for anyone with a sweet tooth.







These are just a few suggestions, but there’s many more charming and exciting spots for you to discoverNewcastle is a city that keeps on giving and you’ll always have more places to explore and check out
