4 Holiday DIY Projects to Decorate your Flat

With less than a month until Christmas you may be thinking to yourself it might be time to ‘deck the halls’ by decorating your flat. Whether you are interested in going all out with the DIY projects or just picking up a few things at Poundland, here are a few ways that you can make sure your flat is the most festive around.

Popsicle stick snowflake

Materials:

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Glue
  • Paint
  • String (optional – if you want to hang)

Instructions:

1. Lay out popsicle sticks in the shape of a snowflake, the more sticks you use, the bigger your snowflake will be.screen-shot-2016-12-04-at-3-47-32-pmscreen-shot-2016-12-04-at-3-47-25-pm

2. Once you have put together your snowflake, carefully glue each of the popsicle sticks together using either a hot glue gun, or another type of liquid glue.

3. Once the glue is dry (a couple hours), you can begin to paint your snowflakes. Pro tip: paint one side first, let it dry and the move on to the other side.

4. Once the paint on your snowflakes is dry, you can add string if you would like to hang your art! If not, that’s okay too. This step is completely optional.

Washi tape Christmas tree

Materials:

  • Washi tapes in a variety of colors and finishes
  • Double-sided tape
  • Colorful paper
  • Scissors
  • Christmas lights

Instructions:

1. Begin applying the tape to the wall in the shape of a Christmas tree. Use the double-sided tape as necessary to help secure the tape to the wall.

3. Cut out ornaments in your colorful paper. Using the double-sided tape secure them to the wall, enhancing the look of your decorated washi tape tree!

Coffee-Filter Snowflakes

Materials:

  • Coffee filters
  • Hole punch
  • Regular scissors
  • Decorative edge scissors (optional)
  • Double sided tape

Instructions:

1. Begin by folding the coffee filter in half 3 times.

3. Once you are finished cutting the coffee filters, use the double-sided tape to secure the snowflakes to the wall or window.

Plastic Cup Snowman

Materials:

  • Plastic cups
  • Stapler and staples
  • Construction paper (black, orange, red)
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Hat and scarf
  • String of lights (optional)

Instructions:

1. Begin by making a ring of cups, staple together.

2. Add additional rings of cups until you are left with a sphere of cups.

3. Repeat one or two more times, making sure to make each sphere a little smaller than the last to create the perfect snowman.

4. Staple each of the spheres together.

5. Using the scissors, carefully cut some circles to make the buttons and eyes, a half circle to make the mouth, and a triangle for the nose.

6. After all of your shapes are cut out, glue them to the cups, bringing your snowman to life.

7. Place the hat and scarf on your snowman to make it complete.

Bonus: Place a string of lights inside of your snowman to make it light up
