The Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge

The Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge is the only university investment competition to take place entirely within the Bloomberg Terminal® and is completely free to enter!

The challenge can help you to gain experience in preparing and discussing investment reports with peers and can boost your research and presentation skills. It’s also a great chance to meet and socialise with like-minded students and build contacts.

How does it work?

Teams of 3-5 students will use the Terminal to define market assumptions, develop a return-generating strategy, and execute trades over the Bloomberg network.

Teams will have a $1 million virtual USD to invest in stocks and for each stock the team picks, the team captain will designate the dollar amount for trade from available funds. The team should come together to decide on trade ideas and then submit them (starting 17th October 2022) using a Bloomberg Terminal. The following are the parameters for selecting securities:

  • Notional 1M USD to invest
  • Any stock in the WLS Index
  • Single name equities – no ETFs
  • Long only – no short positions
  • No leverage
  • No single position held by a team can be greater than 20% of the notional amount

Key Dates (All times are New York Time EDT)

  • Registration is open from September 17th, 9am until October 5th, 12pm.
  • Practice Week will be from October 11th, 9am to October 14th, 5pm.

How to Register & Other Info

The registration form can be found at: https://bloom.bg/3E95LGf

No single participants allowed; all participants must be in a team of 3-5 registered student participants with one faculty advisor to compete. You may only enter one team however a single faculty advisor may represent multiple teams.

The Team Captain organises and coordinates the larger team’s investment decisions. Each team will trade through the Team Captain’s registered login. Team members can create their own Bloomberg logins for the purposes of using the Terminal to discover, develop and test trade ideas, but the Challenge will be managed through a single designated login name.
